Ariana is an incredibly talented artist with an amazing voice, yet this news made me think. We already know mainstream music is controlled for the most part by corporations and major labels but the sad part is most No.1 in the past 15 years - if not more - has been written and produced by the same handful of people, and this is the result. That 6 spots on Billboard are taken by 2 artists, for weeks on end. Let that sink in. The world is fed the same music over and over, the 4 chords of doom, there's no "weight" in mainstream modern music anymore. Remember when music wasn't only about boyfriends and girlfriends and Lamborghini's? Remember when bands and artist were trying to change what was wrong with society? To get people to think, react and fight? Instead of numbing the population down with teeth-decaying candy pop all the time? There's nothing wrong with candy-pop, or "light" music you can listen to casually, but to have NO choice but that, that doesn't sound right. And some will say, "You do have a choice, music is out there" yes but it's almost impossible for people to find artists that are buried under the massive promotion mainstream artists get, and why? All because of money. All because they can make *another* million. They have the right to do that, in the end, the industry give the people what people want. Does it tho'?

What if all genres and a wide variety of artist, independent too, where given the same exposure than who's on top now? Would they still be on top? Because alternative, independent music, survives despite being in such disadvantaged position in the market Would they be holding 6 spots simultaneously without being force-fed to the population thru radio, TV, shows, appearances, social media? How would that handful of top songwriters, masters are re-writing the same hit over and over and make it sound as something new, compare to other composers and songwriters around the world if given the chance? No they are not competing with them right now, there's no competition if a handful of major labels and corporation decides who gets airplay and who doesn't. Support independent music, if you find an artist you like, be vocal about it, promote it, support it, tell friends and people, even and especially if you're an artist yourself. If all independent artists would support each other there could be a chance for things to change for the better.
